When ‘The Big Book of Worcester Who’s Who’ is written (you never know, it might one day) I hope the authors will find it in their hearts to include the following as a lasting reminder of a small town boy who dared to dream.
“In 2007 I had a dream. A dream that would bring musicians, venues, music lovers and the general public together in a festival of love, appreciation and enjoyment of live music whilst helping those less fortunate than ourselves. This dream was a dream I dreamt and foolishly tried to make it reality. And a reality it became, born with the co-operation of like-minded people my dream was fulfilled and I could live my life knowing that I had achieved something, and I saw that it was good.”
That is what I hope they’ll print.
In reality I probably won’t get a mention or possibly, if I’m lucky, they’ll write
“Chris Bennion, nice guy, put on a few gigs, called it Worcester Music Festival and then gave up.”
I was asked recently, by a nice old lady if I could book some live music for a local event. “What’s the budget?” I asked. The woman looked at me like I’d molested her pet parrot. Confused, worried and a little shocked she said “It’s a community event.”
Still looking at me like that had answered my question she continued “It’s to raise money for the local parish. There’ll be hundreds of people there.”
“So there’s no fee?”
“I’m sure we can offer them a cream cake and as much tea and coffee they want.”
I have put on gigs in a variety of venues in Worcester. The Marrs Bar, Drummonds, Keystones, Coach and Horses, St Swithuns Church, Cap n Gown, Boston Tea Party, The Pheasant, Swan With Two Nicks, Worcester Arts Workshop, Eagle Vaults, Tudor House Museum …. (jeez, that’s a lot of venues. I’d forgotten about a lot of these until writing this list.) Read the rest of this entry »
Where else will you find such a diverse array of musical acts on the same bill.
A ukulele duo, a couple of singer songwriters, a salsa dancing act and a hip hop soul band.
Only at Lazy Sunday at Cafe Bliss, the heart of the Worcester Arts Workshop.
The second lazy Sunday of the year was blessed with an unseasonaly hot sun. It was a beautiful day and beautiful people were in the courtyard of cafe bliss for some fine live music and some of Eloinas famous Belize Cuisine. Read the rest of this entry »
Worcester Soup is a great way to build community support, raise money and make connections that can help you carry out your project.
Simply your idea or project can be anything as long as its aim is to benefit Worcester in some way.
There are only two rules for presenters, the first is you can’t use technology to present and the second is that the idea presented must benefit Worcester City.

Its nearly time to start thinking about the next Pantomime from Norton Theatre Group. I have been writing the script for the past four months. Give it a couple more months and I might be happy with it. … but I doubt it.
I was browsing the internet (procrastinating again) and came across this video (below) which I had forgot all about from 2014/2015. It’s a video by Ruth Wakefield showing the work that goes into putting a show on.It was the second script I had written for the group and contained some great lines and some bad jokes. .. really bad jokes, really really really ….

PCC HUSTINGS AT THE CAP N GOWN, WORCESTER.
Imagine a job that you had to convince the public that you are the right man (or woman) to do the job for the next 3 (or maybe 6 if they do well) years. And imagine if you had to meet some of the public to convince them you were the best candidate… in a pub
Well, the police and crime commissionaire for Worcestershire job is up for grabs and 6 people have stepped into the ring ready to battle it out.
